A Unified View of Matter and Gravity in Warped Extradimensional Models

By Katherine Benson, Emory University

We review the history of warped extra dimensions, then examine 4D effective theory and hierarchy solution more closely in a variety of warped extradimensional models. We treat {\em both} matter and gravity as intrinsically extradimensional, with unified interaction scales; both become effectively 4D when branes form and warp extradimensional spacetime. We track the 4D Planck and particle actions induced by brane backgrounds. For a modified Randall-Sundrum model, with all matter extradimensional before brane formation, we solve two problems: validating rigorous hierarchy solution, while solving the charge universality problem. This occurs within the context of a small, unresolved warped extra dimension, making the diverse localization of matter fields irrelevant to defining a complete 4D effective theory of matter and gravity. We note generic warped extra dimensions' potential for hierarchy solution, and the model dependence of charge universality. We show robust hierarchy solution in an extradimensional global monopole model as well.
